When A 9-Year-Old Girl Started To Cry On The Field, One Senior rushed To Her Aid

4th grader, Addie Rodriguez, was performing with her cheer squad when her mother saw her daughter close to tears. During a special performance, the fathers of the girls lifted them onto their shoulders…all except for Addie. Her father, an Air Force veteran who has previously served in Iraq and Afghanistan, had recently left to continue training at Travis Air Force Base in California, over 1,700 miles away.

Addie’s mother, Alexis Perry-Rodriguez, felt helpless as she watched her daughter struggle to keep her emotions in check.

It was truly unfortunate to see your daughter standing out there being the only one without their father, knowing why he’s away. It’s not just an absentee parent. He’s serving our country.”

But then she noticed a teen leaping down the bleachers and vaulting over the fencing in a rush to speak to her little girl. He knelt down, and before Alexis realized what he intended to do, Addie had been lifted up alongside the other girls.10-14a7He asked the girl if she was okay, and he didn’t hesitate to step in and help in any way that he could. Addie didn’t realize how hard it would be to stand there while her friends were accompanied by their fathers, knowing that hers couldn’t be there as well.

But while she does miss him, she knows that he is gone for a good reason, helping to protect the country that she lives in. Her mother is grateful for the quick-thinking teen and his consideration.
