Like four other men before him, Tom Mitchell happened to drive by this overturned pickup truck submerged upside-down in the floodwaters of Myrtle Springs, Texas. He stopped to see if he could help and immediately began filming.
The men couldn’t get the truck’s doors open due to the pressure of the rushing water and as more and more people drove by, they stopped to help pry the door open. When they finally break the cabin open, they realized the horrifying truth:
Inside of the truck, they found an unresponsive infant and toddler barely hanging on to life.
They were able to rescue the driver, father of the two children, and the toddler was responsive, but the baby wasn’t breathing. That’s when Mitchell knew he could help. A bystander immediately started praying for help and Mitchell shoved his phone into his pocket while he performed CPR on the infant.
Dear Jesus, please let this baby breathe,” the woman says in the video. “Dear Jesus, please let this baby breathe.” She is heard pleading while Mitchell tries to get the baby to cough up the flood water.
The video cuts to black as the camera is covered by his pocket.Phillip Ocheltree, the father of the children, is heard begging for his children to live. Mitchell screams at them to stay back while he tries desperately to save the baby’s life.
Soon after, paramedics arrive to take over.
We seriously cannot thank all of the friends, people family everyone that has been with us thank you all for your support and prayers the man upstairs is hearing them loud and clear.” Ocheltree said after the incident.
Thanks to a group of strangers, everyone survived.
