It isn’t any new thing that teachers don’t get the support that they need from their communities. They are underpaid, overworked, and underfunded. Many times, teachers are forced to make purchases with their personal savings in order to supply their classrooms. This teacher was at Wal-Mart and had loaded it full of 150 spiral-bound notebooks.
A stranger noticed her counting out the supplies and asked her why she was buying so many. She shared the story on Facebook, and people are asking about how they might help the teachers in their areas, too!
So, I was just at Walmart, buying school supplies for my kids, when this man started asking me questions (like why are you buying 150 notebooks).
I explained that I teach science and it wasn’t worth the hassle of trying to get kids to bring their own notebooks, and that it takes away from time I could be teaching them. He then proceeded to pay my entire cart of classroom supplies.
I started crying and hugged him and asked for a picture. His son was watching the whole thing too. There are some really good people in this world.
What a nice man.
People are chiming in, saying that many teachers are able to claim up to $250 on the taxes if they purchased school supplies for their classrooms, and others have said that simply asking your child’s teachers if they need any specific supply donations would go a long way to helping them out. This is a sweet story, and we hope that it helps a lot of teachers in the long run!
