Commercial logging and deteriorating forests are becoming a huge concern, and finally, we’re taking steps to give back to nature in a BIG way! As in ‘1 billion trees a year’ big. That’s a lot of trees. Essentially, “tree bombing” new forests in a way that hasn’t been possible before now.
So, how does it work? The program is proposed to use trees that can grow 10 feet per year – the fastest growing trees in the world! In only a few years, the effects of de-forestation will finally have a rival that could start making a real difference..
A fleet of unused and decommissioned C-130 Hercules cargo planes, originally created to drop land mines, could be recommissioned as foresters…The planes will be outfitted to each drop up to 900,000 trees in one day and with 2,500 C-130’s sitting unused in 70 different countries, this idea could make for a lot of little saplings.” – Inquisitr
The cones would hit the ground so hard that they would essentially plant themselves.
We can fly at 1,000 ft at 130 knots planting more than 3,000 cones a minute in a pattern across the landscape – just as we did with landmines, but in this case each cone contains a sapling. That’s 125,000 trees for each sortie and 900,000 trees in a day.”We’ve done a lot to the planet, and if we aren’t careful, we might leave some pretty nasty footprints that can do a lot of lasting damage. This is still being proposed, and although it seems like a simple solution, I’d be wary of how it was implemented. Being sure that animals and other living creatures weren’t killed in the process of this “tree bombing” is a large concern, but I hope that they can figure it out! This could really help in a big way!
