Ben Mudge had an average body type before his miraculous transformation, but once you learn why he started such a strict fitness regimen, you’ll be amazed! He isn’t fighting for self-esteem or ego…he is fighting for his life.
When Ben was just 7 years old, he was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. It currently doesn’t have a cure and in the end, kills those who have it. The life expectancy for someone with cystic fibrosis is between the ages of 30 and 40, and oftentimes even younger than that. Because of his condition, he would have trouble breathing and find it impossible to keep weight on his body.
He felt like there was no hope to change the way his life would end up…until he was about 20 years old. He just didn’t want to sit around doing nothing. For the past 5 years, he didn’t give up.
He started going to the gym, training as much as possible. His strict workout routine eventually began to pay off. Before then, he wasn’t able to keep weight on his body, but now? Now, at 25, he is a personal trainer and has a lung capacity of 98% – unheard of for someone with cystic fibrosis. His determination to live past the bleak life expectancy of 30 years has driven him to live an exceedingly healthy lifestyle that will most likely allow him to live for many more years than the doctors predicted.
He takes daily medication to assist his lungs, and laughs when someone accuses him of using steroids…since that is the exact opposite of why he is working so hard in the first place! He knows that this isn’t a cure, but if it allows him to live a longer life, he’ll keep it up for as long as he can. He is an inspiration to many, especially to others who have cystic fibrosis.
