If you plan to go to the mall in hot weather, it might be worth it to check and see if they have a dress code. Apparently, this popular mall had one…but no one actually knew about it. It was fairly mild, stating that visitors must wear shirts and shoes, and avoid clothing with “inappropriate words, phrases, or graphics.” Many people were quick to point out that the “dress code” is too vague to have made any difference in this woman’s case.
While out at the mall in 90+ degree weather, Hannah was dressed for the scorching heat in a Finding Dory tank top, jean shorts, and slip-on flats; an outfit similar to what many other people wear when the weather gets so hot.
Someone reported her to mall security for her outfit as being “inappropriate.” Are you ready for her scandalous choice of outfit? She wrote about it and posted a picture of the outfit that got her escorted out of the mall:
I felt so embarrassed I almost cried. All because a stranger didn’t like how I dressed.
The Woodland Mall should be ashamed of themselves, as well as that anonymous complainer. It’s my body, and it’s hot outside! I’m not going to show up in jeans and a sweater, sorry. Don’t like it? Look away! I was out having a fun time with my sister and next thing I know, I’m out on the street.
Shaming how girls are dressed is deplorable and outdated, and it needs to stop.”
She was contacted by representatives from the mall who apologized and informed her that they would be training their security staff on the appropriate way to handle complaints in the future.
Style has evolved and they need to be aware that people are going to dress how they want to dress. If public malls want to have a dress code, that’s their choice, but consumers need to be made aware of this dress code so we can decide whether or not we want to shop there.” Hannah said.
Her post went viral as people wondered why a complete stranger thought they had the right to say anything in the first place.
