Rhino Lightning, a 3-year-old brindle boxer mix, was adopted by a family with four children in the hopes of making a new best friend. After a few months, the family realized that Rhino wasn’t going to be a good fit. They tried their best, but Rhino needed more attention that they could give, and the energetic dog was just too active around the family’s smaller children.
When the family brought Rhino to the shelter, he was accompanied by a heartbreaking letter from the family’s 9-year-old daughter.
Hi, if you are reading this, you must own Rhino now,” the girl started. “He was my puppy. I really hope he is in a good environment. I really miss him. I wish he knew that he was a pretty puppy.”
She then explains how to take care of Rhino. It was important for him to go out for a run two or three times each day, bathe him once a month, and, of course, give him lots of love. “Rhino is a good dog and he loves cuddles. Just don’t tease him with treats — he will start to bark like crazy, then you have to just try and calm him.”
Rhino only spent one week in the shelter before a new family decided to take him home. They were touched by the note and plan to follow all of her instructions! Hopefully, Rhino has found a new forever home!
