Michael Vadreuil lost everything in 2007. He had a plastering business that went under, and when it did, it took his home, his livelihood, and very nearly his will to live. He was in his late 40’s and felt as if it was too late to start over…but he didn’t give up.
He took a custodial job at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute to try and get back on his feet. What he didn’t realize was that the institute let employees take classes there for free!
He took a few classes in psychology, but realized that he was more of a “hands-on” kind of guy and switched to mechanical engineering. He had a job to keep him afloat, but now it was time to work towards a better future.
And 8 years later, he finally has it. At 54, he never imagined that his life would take such a drastic turn. He was starting over, and it felt good when he finally crossed the stage at graduation.
His actions and perseverance have inspired other people who might be looking to change the course of their lives as well. It’s never too late to start over, and he never would have realized his true calling in life if he hadn’t lost everything.
But it didn’t come without a lot of hard work. He cleaned the halls for 8 years. He mopped and swept and took out the garbage each week, dreaming of a better life…and now he’s found it!
