In Milan, Italy, there is a 16-year-old pooch named Cacao that had a mysterious hobby that his owner knew nothing about. Cacao was free to roam during the day, and his owner knew that he was trained to stay out of the busy streets and on the sidewalks.
She had adopted him as a stray one day, and quickly taught him how to walk without a leash. Nicolette worked at a bar during the day and left Cacao to his own devices during that time. He had a microchip, and so she felt confident that he could be trusted to wander the neighborhood.
She discovered his secret life after reading about her pup in the papers!
Cacao is famous. Every day for the last few years, he waits for the bus. He knows the driver of bus #54, and knows that it will drop him off at a public park in north-east Milan. He won’t get onto any other bus – only the one with the friendly driver who overlooks the rules about animals on the bus!
He has a few favorite spots in the park, too. He wanders about the gardens, naps in the sunlight, and walks around to get exercise. After a few hours, he walks back to the bus stop and waits for that same bus driver to take him back home.
She first heard about her dog’s outings from a patron at the bar who said that they had witnessed her dog taking the bus! Nicoletta didn’t believe it at first, but later realized that Cacao had memorized the route from their weekly trips to the market – near his favorite park!
She thought his daily trips were harmless, and after speaking to the bus driver, learned that he was happy to ignore the regulations and continue to allow her adorable pup to take his daily commute to the park!
