At a Walmart in Toronto, Constable Niran Jeyanesan was called in after security detained a shoplifter. The thief had been caught with a surprising collection of items. He wasn’t swiping an expensive smartphone or gadget; he was caught with a dress shirt, a tie, and black socks.
It wasn’t the usual things that people tried to steal and so the constable decided to get to the bottom of things.
The man was an 18 year old kid who had a job interview and knew that he wouldn’t have been hired in the clothing on his back. He didn’t have money, nice clothing, or any way to get those things until he landed a job – and he wouldn’t land a job without those things. In his mind, shoplifting was the only way to get back onto his feet. Constable Jeyanesan bought the clothes the young man had tried to steal and gave them to him as a gift. He was touched that the teen was so eager to do the right thing, that he was willing to do the wrong thing to get there. It was a tough situation, but the hopeful teen was lucky to have encountered this constable.
Most others wouldn’t have intervened. The teen plans to go to as many job interviews as possible until he lands one…and it’s all thanks to this kind-hearted member of the Toronto Police Department!
