In most neighborhoods, heavy snowfall means the local kids will be out and about offering to shovel driveways and sidewalks for extra cash. Armed with snow shovels and dressed in their warmest gear, they expect to be faced with icy snow – not a life or death situation!
In the small town of La Salle in Colorado, that is exactly what happened.
Coby Entihar was out with his brother and a couple of friends trying to make some extra money by shoveling snow. They had been shoveling all day, and at the last house, something shocking was discovered.
My brother told me go up to the door. I knocked on the door and I heard somebody yelling,” Coby said. “I felt kind of in a worthless situation. Like I was worthless because I couldn’t get into his house to help him.”
The kids called 911 when they couldn’t get into the house. They thought he may have been in there for days, although doctors haven’t confirmed or denied the claim. Coby says that the man was found writhing in pain after he had fallen and was unable to get back up.
Paramedics were able to check his vitals and rush the man to the hospital where he is being treated.
This story reminds us all to check on the elderly in our own neighborhoods. Who knows what might have happened if those kids hadn’t knocked on his door that day.
