Two detectives collected almost 400 gowns to be donated to girls who wanted to go to prom but couldn’t afford a dress. The students at the High School for Law Enforcement and Public Safety was holding a prom, but two detectives realized that many girls didn’t go because they couldn’t afford a dress, much less shoes or jewelry.
Many cops donated their old gowns and spare dresses for the girls to choose from! Michele Mondesir chose this gorgeous, sparkling royal blue gown that had once belonged to an officer, and they were both excited!
The girls had their pick of the gowns, and the detectives were able to give them heels, purses, and jewelry to match their dream dresses! The community was more than happy to donate dresses and accessories for the event. Along with community members, several designer labels donated dresses as well.
Finding the perfect prom dress is an experience that many girls remember for the rest of their lives. Going from place to place and finding a dress that makes them feel empowered and beautiful can sometimes be tough – especially on a budget. These girls didn’t want to go to prom if it meant that they couldn’t find the perfect dress. And no one should have to make that choice!
A lot of work went into this dress donation extravaganza, and I hope that it inspires more people to do similar acts of kindness in the future!
The girls were excited to try on dress after dress until they found the “perfect” one. This prom will surely be a night to remember!
