Have you ever stopped to read the owner’s manual for your oven? If you’re like most of us, the answer is probably ‘no!’ Who needs to read the manual for an oven, anyway? We’ve been around them for our entire lives – that drawer is where mom kept her mounds of baking pans and cupcake molds! But if you take a look at the intended purpose for that drawer, you might just clear it out and start using it for the reason they made it. Most brands that have the drawer call it a “warming drawer.” Usually, the description goes a little something like this:
The warming drawer is designed to keep hot foods at serving temperature. Always start with hot food. Cold or room-temperature foods cannot be heated, warmed, or cooked in the warming drawer. Bacteria will grow very rapidly in food that is between 40 and 140 degrees Farenheit.”
Did you know about the drawer’s true function? In many houses, giving up the storage space might not be worth keeping dinner warm for another 20 minutes, but for some, this might be just the thing they were hoping for! What do you use your drawer for?
