Aiden Jackson, a 14 year old from Widnes, England, collected 10,500 plush animals to raise money in honor Olivia Walker who passed away at the age of 15. Olivia died due to complications from her many disabilities, and her family began the Olivia Alice Foundation which donates equipment to hospitals.Aidan took on the challenge of filling the town’s rugby stadium with as many “fans” as he could, and the plushies poured in from all over the world. Aidan’s sister was in China at the time when she began spreading the word of Aidan’s fundraiser. She told her professor who helped to collect donated animals. Aidan’s “Bear Challenge” hopes to raise over $16,000 for the charity through the generosity of others.
His last challenge raised over $8,000 when he swam the length of the English Channel over a period of 3 months, and this time, he wanted to include as many people as possible…and this seemed like the perfect way to do it!One woman donated 500 bears on her own, filling a significant portion of the stadium. Aidan and several volunteers spent over 6 hours placing the stuffed animals, but they still have a couple thousand to go. The stadium contains 13,350 seats, and Aiden asks for each donated bear to be accompanied by £1. He is well on his way to meeting his goal, and hopes that it will be a success.
His deadline was the 10th of August, but is still accepting donations in hopes of meeting the goal – if a bit late!
