For most of us, the work week is fairly predictable. We wake up to Monday morning traffic, spend the day doing tasks and meeting deadlines, and drive home in time for the evening news. Five days in a row, week after week, it can get a bit monotonous. We try to shake up our routines by doing things on the weekends or meeting friends during the lunch hour, but even then it can still feel dry. Morissa Pena was pulling into work – it was just another Tuesday to her. She would clock in, set up her section, greet and serve customers, and go home…just like every other work day. That is until she noticed a man sitting on the curb, looking like he had just been through the worst month of his life.
…he takes off his necklace and hands it to me…this man gave me the only thing that had any value to him.”
She wasn’t able to do much for the man. She couldn’t pay for his hospital visit, she couldn’t buy him a ticket home, and she couldn’t give him a place to stay…but she could give him a hot meal, an encouraging word, and reassure him that there were still good people in the world who cared about one another. Her story has gone VIRAL for obvious reasons, and she hopes that her actions can inspire others to do the same!
