There she was, braving the cold weather and walking through a crowded subway station to get to work on time. She wasn’t out for attention, she wasn’t looking to make new friends or talk to strangers. She just wanted to start her day and go about her business.
That’s what most women are doing when they go out in public. Women don’t go outside to fish for compliments or get creepy propositions from lonely men. They are running errands, going to work, picking up the kids from school, going to the gym, grabbing coffee with a friend, or a million other things that don’t involve getting “complimented” by…well, let’s face it, really gross men. They use that word to defend themselves when they get called out too; “it was just a compliment,” but their comments are far from it.
It was the “thank you” that got me. As if my 5 inches of legging-covered skin were there for him.”
Her post has since gone VIRAL, and has gotten comments and messages from hundreds of people. They range from, “he was just complimenting you and you were being rude” to “I’m so glad you stood up for yourself.” Hopefully, the guys who cat-call will grow up soon. Going out of your house to buy milk and bread and eggs shouldn’t have to come with a side of disgusting banter, too.
