She Wanted To Prove That His Gambling Was A Waste Of Money, But Accidentally Won $1 Million

Glenda Blackwell was at her wit’s end as she watched her husband ask for two Powerball tickets from their local Quik Mart and wanted to prove a point. She cancelled his purchase and bought a $10 Carolina Millions scratch-off ticket instead.

I was going to be ugly and buy a scratch-off to show him they didn’t hit,” she told her local news station. She was annoyed that he kept wasting their money instead of using it for groceries and bills.

But as she scratched it, she realized that her plan had backfired as she had accidentally won $1 million dollars instead. Oops!

I had to eat my words, but they were worth eating, so I was very happy.”

The family has struggled for a long time, but with the sudden influx of cash, they are now able to purchase their own home on their own land. They won’t have to worry about a mortgage, they can help their daughter, and even pay college tuition for their two granddaughters.

Blackwell decided to take the lump sum of $415,503 after taxes and fees instead of the 20 yearly payments of $50,000 (minus taxes and fees) because, the 57-year-old says bluntly, she isn’t sure they will live long enough to receive it all.

But one thing Blackwell is excited about? After these winnings, they won’t be spending any more money on lottery tickets – they’ve already won!
