Brandon Carpenter received a phone call from the mother of his child asking him to pick up some infant Tylenol because their daughter wasn’t feeling well. When he brought the medicine, he took a look around. While the pantry was filled with formula and baby food, there wasn’t anything in the fridge. She had spent her money on their daughter, but hadn’t spent any on her own needs…and he just couldn’t let that be.
…she works a full time job and then has my daughter. She pays rent, all her bills, plus she is paying off a car. So today I went shopping to make sure she had food for the next few weeks. Just because we aren’t together doesn’t mean I can’t provide for her if she needs it. If my child’s mother is good, then I know she is taking care of our daughter the best she can and that makes me happy.”
He wrote that the mindset of “I’m only going to provide for my child,” and forgetting to support the woman raising the child is “thinking like a child.”
It’s time to grow up and take responsibility in all aspects of life.”
His actions have been shared thousands of times by people in this exact situation. Raising a child is tough work, and making sure that the child’s environment is as stable as possible is an important part of it. This guy shared his story in the hopes that others will be inspired to do the same.
