Dani Mathers made a terrible decision back in July of 2016 that ended up costing her promising career and subjected her to endless amounts of public scorn. The former Playboy model was at the gym and took a selfie…and posted it along with a picture of a naked woman, shaming the woman’s body in the privacy of the gym’s showers.
Her fans didn’t think it was funny, and the story went viral for the worst reasons. Mathers immediately apologized and admitted that she had made a huge mistake, not only by violating the law and posting an unauthorized photo that invaded another person’s privacy.
The case went forward with criminal charges of invasion of privacy, a misdemeanor that carries a penalty of up to six months in jail. She plead “no contest” and was sentenced to what some are calling a “slap on the wrist.”
She was sentenced to 30 days of graffiti removal, to be carried out one day each week, and to pay $60 in restitution to the victim. She is also placed on summary probation for 36 months, being ordered not to take any more unauthorized photos that invade another person’s privacy.
She was given the choice between 45 days in jail or 30 days of probation spread out across 30 weeks. She chose the latter is glad to have the time to work on herself and reflect on what led her to take and post the picture in the first place.
