Rare Spherical Cloud Photographed Above Homes In Japan

Finding shapes in the clouds has probably been a favorite way to spend an afternoon for the entirety of humanity. We love to find patterns and compare things, but we never really expect to find perfection in nature. Perfectly round or perfectly square shapes are a bit of a rarity, and this cloud is no exception.

This cloud was spotted hovering over a neighborhood in Fujisawa, Japan, by Popy, a woman who posted the story on Twitter.

When I looked out of the car window I saw a round ball-shaped cloud. I gazed at the cloud for a while then I rushed to take the photo. When I saw the cloud it was an even more spherical shape, so I regret not taking the photo more quickly,” she wrote.

Her picture is nearly perfect, and people are sharing it like crazy! The cloud appeared right around 3pm and existed for only a few short minutes. She watched the cloud, but it vanished as if it were made of smoke almost as soon as it formed.

While other users snapped pictures of the mysterious cloud, none of them were as perfect as Poppy’s.

Climate experts have seen strange cloud formations like this before and usually categorize it as a “roll cloud.” They can form when wind coming over a mountain creates a “wave,” or from cold air coming quickly from the sea, or a sudden cold front. However this particular cloud formed, we still think it’s pretty cool!
