Sgt. Mendoza was on his way to a funeral in New York, but this particular funeral was hitting harder than expected.
Sgt. Paul Tuozzolo had been killed in the line of duty, and the 19-year veteran on the New York Police Department was being honored in more ways than one.
Mendoza is a member of an organization that allows officers across the country to support one another, paying travel expenses for Mendoza to attend the funeral. In fact, three other members were on their way to New York along with Mendoza, and others were traveling to funerals in Iowa, Utah, and Georgia. 12 officers had been killed in the last 10 days, and they were doing their best to honor the lives of the fallen officers.
So, when Mendoza discovered this note hidden inside of his luggage, he just had to share it.

I’m sorry about NYPD officer. I pray and hope this violence stops. You are my hero, be careful and be safe. Grace Mom and I are going to miss you.
WE LOVE YOU!
I ♥ U Daddy”
Members of the public commented, wishing him a safe journey as well, and thanking him for going on the trip in the first place. Many people wish to attend these funerals, but work schedules, obligations, and travel expenses get in the way. It’s nice to see officers honoring their own, and that is why this short, sweet note has gone viral.
