A KFC in Gallipolis, Ohio is getting a lot of attention after they posted a printed sign in the window of their front door. Someone snapped a picture of it and it was shared by the Gallipolis Police Department…and the reaction is not what you’d think. Take a look at the sign:
The owner of this KFC posted the sign and within days, it was all over social media. With thousands of likes and shares, it didn’t take long before the arguments started up. The intention was to encourage the officers to keep up the good work and know that their community valued them…others thought that the policy excluded a lot of other first responders who put their lives on the line just as often.
Fire fighters, EMTs, and other rescue personnel shouldn’t have been left out of it people claim. That by only serving free meals to GPD, they weren’t supporting the entire community.
The administrator of the Ohio Going Blue Facebook page (an officer) decided to step in and told those people to look at the bigger picture:
This is a positive post, but some of you can’t see the bigger picture. As an officer, I do not go into any establishment expecting or wanting anything to be free or…. even a discount, whether I’m in uniform or not, and I can tell you other officers feel the same way. We don’t like ‘special treatment.’ The fact is that KFC is acknowledging law enforcement, which is why this was posted. To those who stated that other first responders should also be acknowledged…My answer? ABSOLUTELY.”
After the response, people were able to see the big picture, but others just didn’t get it.
