Officer Requires 200 Push-Ups Instead Of Arresting Teen For Smoking Marijuana Outside Movie Theater

Officer Eric Ball didn’t think that this night would be all that exciting. He was off-duty and working security for a movie theater Arlington, Texas when a concerned customer let him know that they had spotted someone smoking marijuana just outside.

If this turned out to be true, Officer Ball would need to arrest him.

He went out to investigate. True to the customer’s word, there was someone smoking outside, but it turned out to be a teenager. Officer Ball was able to tell immediately that the teen had just finished smoking because of the distinct odor given off by the substance.

As soon as the teen saw Officer Ball, he realized that he had made a huge mistake. He was very respectful, and as a result, Officer Ball decided that this teen needed a different kind of lesson than being arrested.

You give me 200 push-ups, I won’t put you in jail,”¬†Officer Ball was overheard telling the kid.

Back in high school, Officer Ball played football, and push-ups are how his coaches used to discipline kids who stepped out of line. Ball had never done something like this before…but he knew that he would make more of an impression if he tried out this method instead.

When the kid’s mother came out of the theater to find her son on the ground doing push-ups, she hugged the officer and thanked him for his effective lesson.
