Little Rhea is a tiny naked lovebird that is now an Instagram superstar. Rhea suffers from Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease, a virus that causes feather loss and malformations in the beak and claws. Rhea has a mild form of Psittacine, which means that she probably won’t be losing her beak or claws and only requires an annual blood test. The spunky little bird was spotted on social media by Isabelle Eisenmann, who knew that she wanted to adopt and care for the bird. Eisenmann created an Instagram account for Rhea and quickly gained more than 250,000 followers!
And while Rhea hasn’t lost her beak or claws, she had lost all of her feathers, meaning that she needs extra help to keep warm. She’s got plenty of blankets, and now, thanks to internet strangers with a passion for knitting, she’s got nearly a hundred of adorable little sweaters to keep her nice and toasty!
When she has a sweater on she feels super cozy and is super calm,” Eisenmann said.
Acceptance is key and no matter how different you are physically, you are still beautiful,” Eisenmann said. “That’s what I want people to learn from her. Always smile, be happy and have a positive attitude.”
Surrounded by her outfits, Rhea poses for a photoshoot, thanking everyone for their thoughts and clothing donations!
