She didn’t want to remember that one, horrible moment that was making their lives a nightmare, but Kait Ellen knew that if she didn’t share her family’s story, other parents might fall into the same trap. While having fun at an indoor trampoline park with their son, this happy family watched in horror as their son fell and injured himself so badly, he had to be placed in a cast. She couldn’t bear the thought of even one more family going through this pain, and so she shared this photo:
Colton fell and broke his femur, the strongest bone in his body, while innocently jumping alongside his dad and I. Come to find out, according to the America Academy of Pediatrics and the America Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons ‘children under the age of 6 should never use a trampoline.’ This is due to the fact that their fragile bones are not meant to withstand the repetitive pressure from jumping.” She wrote.
They didn’t learn this from the trampoline park, they learned it from Colton’s orthopedic surgeon. Due to the severity of his injuries, the 3-year-old will be in a hip spica for six weeks. What makes it worse? He doesn’t understand.
She wants her story to spread, and she wants parents to be aware of just how dangerous and expensive trampoline accidents can be. While going through this, she discovered that many health insurance companies pass the claims off to the homeowner’s insurance, and many homeowner’s insurance companies explicitly state that owning a trampoline is enough to cancel a policy. She wants parents to pay attention and hopes that if it saves even one child, that sharing her ordeal will have been worth it.
