Kristina was killed by a drunk driver when she was only 21 years old. Her family was having a difficult time with the loss of their daughter at such a young age. She no longer lived at home, and so they were expected to clean out her apartment after her death. The entire tragedy really shook them, and they looked for solace anywhere that they could.
Their daughter was so young and had such a full life to live just ahead of her. How could they move on when their daughter couldn’t? That’s when Kristina’s mom found her daughter’s bucket list.
The list had most likely been written in high school based on the older handwriting and the goals that had already been checked off. It wasn’t a very long list, but it was packed full of some of the most exciting things that there were to do in the world.
Kristina’s Bucket List:
- Be in 4 places at once (Walk To Remember)
- Go to Venice
- Learn to play chess
- Beat someone at chess
- Save someone’s life
- Own 2 pieces of property (1 with livestock)
- Manage or own my own business
- Get married
- Have kids
- Learn to fly a plane
- Go to 4/7 wonders of the world
- X Fly first class on a plane
- Visit the 50 states
- Ride in a hot air balloon
- Go parachuting
- X Go skydiving
- Ride a camel
- Travel to all the continents
- X Be remembered as the “smiley girl”
- Break up a fight between 2 guys
- X Be in homecoming court
- Run through a poppy field
- Tour Niagara Falls
- Go to the Smithsonian
- Drive Route 66
She didn’t get very far on her list before she was taken from the world so young. But her family decided that they would complete her list for her! One by one, they began to travel the world and knock things off of her bucket list – something she would never get to do. It may be a while before they finish, but they are determined to make the most of their daughter’s memory. They take her picture everywhere that they go, hoping that she can somehow enjoy the experience as well.
They began sharing their journey on Facebook where it quickly went VIRAL! Complete strangers began to participate in Kristina’s bucket list, doing things they would never have done otherwise.
Random people on the internet were riding camels, flying to Venice, traveling in hot air balloons, and going parachuting – all because Kristina couldn’t.
Kristina’s list is now completed, but her family hasn’t stopped trying new things in their daughter’s memory. They are living life to the fullest, just like Kristina would have wanted!
She was finally able to “run” through a field of poppies, and her family couldn’t be more proud of the legacy their daughter has left for the world.
