In almost all cases, dogs never find out why their humans never came home. Suddenly leaving the home never returning, dogs don’t understand anything but the fact that they have been abandoned. Wondering when they will see their human again, many dogs will live the rest of their lives confused…and while it breaks our hearts, there isn’t a way for us to explain it to them.
But this time was different.
33-year-old Ryan Jessen unexpectedly suffered a brain hemorrhage that took his life…but the hospital staff did something quite unexpected.
The hospital did the sweetest thing for us and allowed us to bring my brother’s dog in to ‘say goodbye’ so she’d know why her human never came home. If you knew my brother, he really loved his sweet dog,” Ryan’s sister, Michelle, wrote on her Facebook page.
Just a few short hours later, he was gone.
He thought he had a migraine, but it was a ventricular brain hemorrhage. They think it was brought on by high blood pressure, and there’s speculation that his frequent consumption of energy drinks may have contributed.” She said.
She shared the story and it soon took off around the world. Thousands of people were touched and thankful that the hospital would allow this dog to say goodbye, but they wanted to know what would happen to Molly, the grieving dog.
Don’t worry about the dog! We’re keeping her!!! She’s part of the family.” Michelle assured them.
The best thing to come out of this tragic event? Ryan’s donor heart was given to a 17-year-old boy, saving his life just in time for Christmas. Michelle only wishes that Ryan could have known his heart would make such a difference after his death.
