Giving your spouse a list of things to-do while they are out and about is no new thing in a marriage. If one of you is going to be running an errand, why not pick up a few things on the way there, right? When Nancy Viola added “pick up a PowerBall ticket” to the list because the lottery had hit over a billion dollars and everyone was buying a ticket.
Instead, he bought the Mega Millions Quick Pick. And they hit the jackpot. Buying his ticket at the 2520 Foodmart on Victory Boulevard in Willowbrook on Staten Island, the couple won $169 million dollars. The moment they realized that the ticket numbers were winning numbers, they didn’t know what to do with themselves. Viola felt like she was having a heart attack.
There was a little screaming. We didn’t tell anybody. It as difficult, but it’s exciting now.”
They hired a team of financial planners to help them manage the huge sum, choosing to take the lump sum of $64,796,160. They haven’t made any huge purchases or made any outrageous changes to their lifestyle.
It has to just settle in, you know, see what happens. Buy a big house? Maybe in the future. It’s a lot of money, it’s a blessing.”
Viola wants to make some good investments and be secure for the future. They are being smart with their winnings and only told people after they had gotten advice on how to proceed.
