Most jobs have that guy. The guy who does the least amount of work but still manages to be the boss’ favorite. These guys get the promotions, the bonuses, the lunches with the higher ups, and the glowing thank-you letters from customers and clients. Most of the time, it’s because of their “can do!” attitude or their personal connections. Other times, the truth is much, much worse!
The boss called one of his employees into the office.
“Rob,” he said, “you’ve been with the company for a year. You started off in the post room, one week later you were promoted to a sales position, and one month after that you were promoted to district manager of the sales department. Just four short months later, you were promoted to vice- chairman. Now its time for me to retire, and I want you to take over the company. What do you say to that?”
“Thanks,” said the employee.
“Thanks?” the boss replied. “Is that all you can say?”
“I suppose not,” the employee said. “Thanks, Dad.”
It doesn’t matter how hard you work in some companies…all that matters is who you know! For the same reason that kings and queens ruled for centuries with the same last name, little company “dynasties” are ruled by blood and not skill. Sure, a lot of the time, a son or daughter will know just as much or more about the company than their parents…but sometimes, there are cases like these that leave us shaking our heads in disbelief!
