Game Warden Spencer Grace responded to a strange call. Nearby ranchers had spotted a bald eagle just sitting on the ground near a dirt road. Every now and then, it would try to fly, but it wasn’t having any luck. They thought that it might be in trouble after the recent ice storm in the area, and Warden Grace went out to see if he could be of any help.
He quickly spotted the bird and realized that it was a local that wasn’t having a great day.
As he got closer, the bird tried to fly away…but its wings were frozen! Covered in thick ice, it couldn’t get more than a few feet off of the ground. The ice storm had drenched its wings and frozen them in a cumbersome way. Since the weather was so cold, there was no way the ice would melt unless the sun came out, and based on the forecast, that wasn’t going to happen anytime soon.
So, he eventually managed to capture the bird and put it into a cage. He placed it into his car and waited. Fourty-five minutes later, the ice had melted and the bird seemed to be feeling a lot better. The bird was released…and flew back to perch in its favorite tree! The encounter was posted on Facebook and warmed the hearts of thousands!
