If your family said “grace” at the dinner table every night, you know what a big deal it is. Everyone bows their heads or holds hands while someone is called on to say thanks for the meal. Depending on the family, this can be a short, “thanks for the grub!” or a long-winded list of everyone the family knows and a prayer for their health. Maybe you only witnessed this pre-dinner ritual when you were visiting friends. One thing every body knows? Don’t touch your plate until “grace” is over! Little Johnny may have gotten it all wrong…
Little Johnny and his family often traveled to visit his grandmother for meals during the holiday season and special events—Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving, Christmas.
One day, Little Johnny and his family were having Sunday dinner at his Grandmother’s house. Everyone was seated around the table as the food was being served.
When Little Johnny received his plate, he started eating right away. “Johnny! Please wait until we say our prayer.” said his mother.
“I don’t need to,” the boy replied.
“Of course, you do” his mother insisted. “We always say a prayer before eating at our house.”
“That’s at our house.” Johnny explained. “But this is Grandma’s house and she knows how to cook.”
Poor kid! He learned the wrong lesson…but maybe his parents will take a few cooking lessons and get better at making the family meal! While they may have been saying thanks for the food that was provided…Johnny was saying a prayer to get through the meal without getting sick! Too cute~
