In this story from July of 2016, Andy Bell, 26, proposed to Anna Swabey, 24, even after learning that she had been diagnosed with a rare brain tumor and likely wouldn’t live past age 30. The couple fell in love after meeting in Tinder, and even when Anna told Andy about her condition, he was determined to marry the woman that he loved…even if they wouldn’t have very much time together.
They planned the wedding for the 17th of September and were very excited to spend as much time as possible as husband and wife, but Anna’s condition suddenly worsened and they were forced to postpone the wedding. Just hours before the wedding would have taken place, Anna passed away in her home, surrounded by her family and her husband-to-be.
Anna wasn’t going down without a fight. In the months leading up to her death, she wasn’t just planning a wedding. She knew that she could make a difference for others and was highly active by dedicating much of her life to charity work, helping to raise over £50,000 for the Brain Tumour Research Campaign.
After graduating with a first class degree in languages and European studies, she had plans to learn Mandarin and there is no doubt she had the brightest of futures ahead.” Said Wendy Fulcher, charity founder.
Since her death, over £1,000 has been given in her memory, and more donations are pouring in to honor her life’s work. Her story is bittersweet, but the good that she has done for others will always be remembered.
