Kids are curious! There’s no denying that. Have you ever walked outside and found your toddler eating leaves or trying to dig up as many plants as possible before you catch him? Most kids have an “act first, ask for permission later” attitude when it comes to doing things that they want to do. Paint a mural on the living room wall in peanut butter that dad forgot to put away? Great idea, no need to ask mom, she’ll love it! Give the dog a bath in used kitty litter? Brilliant. How has no one ever thought of this before? So when her 5-year-old son walked up to a police officer without checking with mom to see if it was okay, she had no idea what the outcome would be. Thankfully, this was one time where asking for permission wasn’t needed!
He then spent 20 minutes talking to my son about how important it is for him to be good at school, make good grades, and how to stay out of trouble.”
Would other cops have taken the time out of their day to have a conversation with a 5-year-old during their dinner break? Probably not. They might have said a few kind words and sent him on his way…but this officer just couldn’t do that! Children need mentors and heroes to look up to. It just so happens that to this little boy, it isn’t Superman, it’s a Police Officer with his shiny badge and lighted car. This officer deserves all of the praise that he is getting! THESE are the stories that deserve to go viral!
