Nick Mead has made it his life’s goal to purchase and restore military vehicles. He has already taken on over 150 projects, but this one made him stop and call the authorities for help when he realized what had been stashed inside.
After purchasing a Chinese model of the Russian T54 tank from the Gulf War, he intended to give it a new engine and new tracks before selling it again.
One of the first things they do is break open different parts of the tank to search for ammunition that may need to be passed on to a bomb disposal crew…instead, they discovered gold bars worth $2.5 million.
You can’t exactly take five gold bullion bars down to Cash Converters without questions being asked, so we called the police.” he said.
They handed the bars over to the authorities and figured that it must have been done by Iraqi soldiers in Kuwait, who had most likely looted the bars and hid them in the fuel tank.
Nick says that even if he never gets the bars back from the police, he at least still has the tank and an incredible story to tell.
Others are confused as to why he would give over $2.5 million to the police. He bought it, it’s his, many people said. What would YOU have done in his place?
