That delicious staple you remember as a kid has been around for a long, long time! It didn’t always come in a bright blue box, though. The recipe is very different from one the one you might be used to, but we’re told that it tastes even better! So, grab your apron and get ready for a delicious blast from the past because old timey mac’n’cheese just went viral!The ingredients aren’t all that strange, but most people wouldn’t know where to start when it came to making a batch of their favorite cheesy noodles from scratch. First, you cook a pot of noodles – yes, they had pasta back then – and strain out the water. Next, you put the still-steaming noodles into a skillet…along with a half cup of cream and a ball of butter covered in flour! Yes, you read that right! They cook the butter and flour mixture down until the noodles are evenly coated with the buttery, thickened goo.…And all that is left? The cheese! Traditionally, they used Parmesan! The cheese was then toasted over the top using a flat, heated iron. Ta-da!The finished meal is just as tasty today as it was then! It isn’t often that we think about what people were up to hundreds of years ago…but the reality is, a lot of them were probably chowing down on a nice bowl of macaroni and cheese!
