Many people give up too quickly. It’s easy to just think, “it didn’t work the first time,” or “well, it probably won’t work” and give up. Sometimes, we even give up before we really start trying. And that is one of the saddest things to J.K. Rowling, the author of the ever-popular Harry Potter series. When she began writing under an alias, she was rejected many times.
She pinned the rejection letters on the wall in her kitchen. It didn’t make her want to quit. Quite the opposite! Those letters just made her want to try even harder! Every time a publisher turned her down, she just tried and tried again.
She decided to share the letters with the world. She wants to inspire others to try their hardest, too.
“I had nothing to lose and sometimes that makes you brave enough to try.”
For some reason, seeing someone wildly popular get rejected makes it easier to believe that our dreams are all the more obtainable. Seeing how hard she had to try (and fail) puts it all into perspective. Do you have a project that you’ve been putting off due to fear of rejection? Take a page from her book (pun intended) and get back to it! Try until you succeed! There’s really nothing stopping you.
