Guy Tries To Crowdfund $15,000 To Buy His Girlfriend An Engagement Ring. The Internet Hates It.

While people use GoFundMe to fund some pretty crazy dreams, the majority of the campaigns are from people who need money for an emergency, to start a new business, or in a lot of cases, people fighting cancer who want to get married and go on a sweet honeymoon. Sure, there are some crazy ones that get funded too, but this one is outrageous! (At least, according to users on Twitter!)

His reasoning is truly baffling. An Atlanta man honestly thought that if his friends and family actually loved him, they should prove it. With their hard earned cash.

This will raise awareness about the difference between the love we share and the love people have for us. Money for the engagement is your chance to get involved. I’ve heard everything from “I Love Yall” to “You need to put a Ring On It” etc etc.” He wrote.

Many women commented, saying that they would feel embarrassed if their fiance tried to pull this on their friends and family. Others wondered why he was asking for so much in the first place – or why he couldn’t afford a ring himself. He explained in more detail. But many people are still confused and don’t see why he chose $15,000 as his price point.

I’ve decided to utilize GoFundMe to let everybody who loves us show us. Sometimes we can’t quite afford expensive things by ourselves. A lot of people lean on credit card companies and banks (that overcharge them) so that they appear to do nice things for people they love by themselves. My approach is a little different. We have friends, family and colleagues that don’t mind passing up a drink or a sandwich to help out. Anything helps. All proceeds will go to the purchase of a beautiful engagement ring one that WE ALL can be proud of. Call me crazy but Love is Free Not Engagement Rings and Weddings.”

His goal was to gain a lot of attention through small donations of a few dollars per person…and while the feedback has been mostly negative, he was still able to raise over $600. What do you think of this man’s approach to an engagement?
