Family Finds Their Missing Cat On A Shelter’s Facebook Page In The Next Town Over 2 Years Later

When the Zelitsky family realized that their 15-year-old tabby cat had gone missing, they feared the worst. After searching for two and a half years, their prayers were finally answered by Facebook!

The West Milford Animal Shelter took the tabby cat in as a stray after a rough blizzard, but they knew by his behavior that someone must be looking for him. They paid Facebook to have their post boosted and seen by people in the area…and it worked! A few days later, Susan Zelitsky messaged the shelter and told them that she was almost positive that the stray they had picked up was Jimmy, their now-15-year-old tabby cat.The shelter arranged for the family to come and visit the cat, instructing them to bring items with their scent on them to see if he would react. They brought mom’s pillowcase and Jimmy’s favorite dog toy that he had played with for years.

When they opened the crate door, I said, ‘Jimmy is that you, bud?’ and he walked over and head-butted me and smooshed his nose into the dog’s toy. I immediately started to sob. He started to rub up against us, and when I was rubbing his belly he nipped me, which he always did. He put his head in Dayna’s hands and he started to purr loudly.” Susan said.

The family thinks that Jimmy hitched a ride in the car when one of them went to visit a friend in another city…and gotten hopelessly lost when no one realized that he had been in the car!

Jimmy is now home safe and sound! Hopefully, everyone will double-check the car before they take anymore long trips!
