A magnificent performance by the U.S. Air Force Band unfolds right in front of unsuspecting guests at the Smithsonian. At first, the visitors only saw one musician in the middle of the lobby play the cello beautifully. But when the other band members start taking their jackets off and approach the center of the room, a glorious flash mob is about to commence.
The astonished spectators were treated to an elegant 4-minute original arrangement of “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring/Joy to the World.” Led by the band’s commander and conductor, Col. Larry H. Lang, a total of 120 musicians filled the museum’s second floor balcony. Singers and instrumentalists stood behind the pieces on display.
More than the brilliant performance of the band and the applause of the crowd is a message that urges all people to unite. And for this message to come from airmen and women makes it even more epic and remarkable.
