The Eastern diamondback rattlesnake is a nasty piece of work. It is one of the heaviest snakes to roam the South, and won’t always warn intruders away with a telltale rattle. Sometimes, they will attack silently, making them quite dangerous if approached. Their colored scales blend in easily with their surroundings, and if you come across one, it might very well be too late to jump away before it attacks.
When one of these venomous creatures ended up in the backyard of a little girl in Tampa, Florida, it prepared to attack. Incredibly, her German shepherd rushed to the rescue, standing between the girl and the snake, refusing to retreat.
The snake attacked the dog, striking several times. The dog, despite multiple snakebites, help his ground and saved the little girl from severe injuries.
The 2-year-old dog, named Haus, was bitten 3 times and as a result has suffered severe damage to his kidneys. His owners rushed him to the vet and he was given the life-saving anti-venom. While he is still not out of the woods yet, Molly hasn’t wanted to leave his side for one second.
His veterinarian says that Haus should make a full recovery, but the bills have skyrocketed, costing the family over $20,000. They asked for donations, sharing their story and hoping that they would get a little bit of help…and the internet responded! They have raised over $50,000 and ask that people stop! They have enough to pay for the vet bills and any rehabilitation that Haus needs, and instead, they would like people to donate to animal shelters or even adopt from the pounds!
