After being diagnosed with cancer in November of 2016, one woman started thinking about what really mattered in life. Due to chemotherapy, she began to lose her hair. It was hard. It was stressful. She had to suddenly deal with a lot of things that most people usually file under “that could never happen to me,” but here it was.
What she wanted to do was normalize being bald, and in order to cope with it herself, she decided to do something creative. She calls it “Bald Buddies.”She asks strangers, friends, and people she spots out in public if they would pose for a picture with her. She shares her story and poses with as many bald people as she can.
When they lose their hair, most women are pressured to invest in expensive, uncomfortable wigs to try and hide it. Men who start balding are pressured to use special shampoos or even go so far as to get hair pieces. She wants more people to have confidence in being bald, and her project is making waves! Some men say that if they were approached in public by a woman pointing out their baldness, they might be confused…but others say that they appreciate her attitude! Being bald isn’t something to be ashamed of, and her brilliant smile proves just that!
