Being a teacher means so much more than handing out grades every 6 weeks. People who don’t value teachers think that they are a drain on the taxpayers, basing their opinions on standardized test results. “Why pay someone to read a book to my kid?” Is the excuse they normally give out.
But teachers are so much more than the content that they explain for 8 hours a day. Teachers care about their students. They want them to understand the course subjects, not just regurgitate them on a test. The teachers who take the extra time out of their day to help students grasp concepts and put their hearts into their lesson plans deserve to be thanked each and every day.
When a new professor received this note in his inbox, he immediately snapped a picture. THIS is why he became a teacher in the first place.
If this doesn’t warm your heart, I don’t know what will! If I had received a letter like that I would have shared it immediately too – maybe after crying just a bit. Most students are indifferent when it comes to their studies. With so much emphasis put on how much they can memorize, it takes a special kind of teacher to help them learn in a way that makes sense to them. This teacher touched a life by focusing on his students more than the course material. This student will never forget the lessons learned in this classroom, and I can guarantee that neither will this teacher!
Do you have a teacher that you can never forget? We don’t always thank them in person, but we remember them for a long time, and maybe that’s good enough, too.
