“My sister is a veterinary student,” the story began. She was texting her friend about a harrowing story involving a sick hamster and a shocking discovery.
When pets stop eating and drinking, it lets owners know that something is seriously wrong. A pet that won’t drink might have a life-threatening condition or illness that may mean it is time to say goodbye. The little girl who owned this poor hamster thought that it might be the end when he wouldn’t eat, drink, or move for days on end…But once they brought her hamster to the veterinary clinic, they were stunned to see that the hamster was acting normally, drinking, eating, and running around without a care in the world. The student begins to ask routine questions and asks the family if the hamster had escaped from its cage recently.
The little girl responded that, yes, their hamster was found underneath the fridge three days prior, just before it stopped eating and drinking.
So, the student begins the examination and realizes that there is a hard lump in the hamster’s cheek pouch: a fridge magnet.
The hamster was just fine and wasn’t actually sick. Instead, he had been magnetically stuck to the side of his metal cage for three days because he wasn’t strong enough to pull himself away from the magnet’s force, and also didn’t want to give up his precious treasure.
