On a Wednesday evening, 4 police officers were seated at a restaurant called Eat’n’Park. They were on duty and must have looked fairly intimidating to anyone nearby…particularly to a couple that had come to have dinner at that same restaurant. When the server tried to seat the couple in the same area, the couple reportedly refused to be seated there. The odd behavior drew the attention of the cops, who tried to reassure the citizens with a simple “you don’t have to worry about it. We wont hurt you.”
The man just gave a curt “no, I’m good. I don’t want to sit there.” His body language told the police that he wanted nothing to do with them. They let it go and the couple was seated at the other end of the restaurant.
The officers wouldn’t let it go and decided to do something about it. With all of the controversy surrounding the police and protesters, they wanted the couple to know that they really are there to protect and serve, despite what the media would have them believe.
They gave the server cash to pay for the couple’s meal and had the server write a quick note on their tab.
Sir, your check was paid for by the police officers that you didn’t want to sit next to. Thank you for your support.” The cop left the server a $10 tip as well.
The officers frequent the restaurant, and on their next visit, the server told them that the couple was “thrown back by it,” their gesture and ended up chuckling at the events. It seems they truly misread the situation entirely.
