Children tend to see problems a lot bigger than they really are. Every issue seems to be bigger than the last, and that’s because…well, it kind of is. Remember the first time you went to get a hair cut? Maybe the first time you sat in the lunchroom at school was the most terrifying thing. Being a child means that the world is full of “firsts,” and it’s just a part of growing up. Parents want to keep bad things from happening as much as possible, but sometimes, they just can’t be there for their children when something goes wrong! In this classroom, this little girl was every parent’s wish come true!
I definitely wish that there was a little “Susie” at some points in my life to help me out of tough or embarrassing situations. I want my kids to grow up and be clever little Susies, too! Teaching kids to be compassionate towards one another is one of the hardest things to do, but in the end it will be worth it! I’m sharing this story because it’s a good lesson for all of us. This time, it was a little 9-year-old boy, but next time, it just might be me!
