Marimar Quiroa’s message to the world isn’t to start changing yourself for other people, but to highlight what you have and be confident in the way that you were born. She doesn’t want people to change who they are or how they look to make others happy. She wants her fans to celebrate what makes them different and to support each other.
She was born with cystic hygroma, which causes growths in her face to fill with fluid. She has undergone many surgeries to correct the growths and drain fluid for health reasons, but it is a condition that she will likely never be free from. She breathes with the help of a tube in her throat and uses sign language to communicate to others.
Two years ago, she started a YouTube channel to reach other people with her condition and over 100,000 people have been inspired by her story and her makeup tutorials. She doesn’t let her differences define her, and people love her for it.
People tell me I look like a monkey…that my mouth is wrong,” she said in the video. “I see them staring. I either tell them to stop or just ignore them, but if people are staring at me, I stare right back. I refuse to look away until they stop staring.”
She does receive negative comments and messages from people trying to hurt her, but she knows that if she can help even just one person with her message, then it is all worth it.
She doesn’t let her physical traits define who she is as a person, and is able to communicate freely on social media, inspiring hundreds of thousands of people every day.
