At just 10 years old, Sara Geurts discovered that she would soon notice changes in her body that had nothing to do with puberty. Diagnosed with a rare skin condition called Dermatosparaxis Ehlos-Danlos Syndrome, it would mean that her body would not be able to produce collagen. It would cause her skin to wrinkle decades before anyone else’s, and for years, it was her biggest insecurity. But over the years, she learned to embrace what made her different and wants to share her story to inspire others.
I think it’s the most beautiful thing ever. Each imperfection you have is individual to you, and it tells a story about you and who you are, and the struggle and the journey that you have been on.” Sara said.
Her confidence in her own skin has amassed her hundreds of thousands of fans who love her inspiring message.
You’re going to meet people who are intimidated by you,” she wrote on Instagram. “You’re different. People don’t know how to react or how to accept someone who doesn’t follow the crowd… They are not used to someone who doesn’t try to fit in — So instead of bolstering your uniqueness, they’ll try and make you feel like you’re weird or damaged. I’m here to offer some well earned advice : Screw them.”
She now works as a model, empowering women to love themselves for who they are – not what society tells them to be.
