Renee Cesario met Brendan Kelly at a Jason Aldean concert, but what should have been a fun night filled with dancing and music turned into a nightmare in the span of seconds.
Cesario had gone to the concert with her friends, but when she wanted to go closer to the stage, she separated from the group and waded through the sea of people with her new friend who just happened to be a United States Marine. The pair enjoyed the music, dancing and having a great time when Cesario thought fireworks were going off, confused when she didn’t see the telltale colors in the sky. But Kelly knew the sounds of gunshots and immediately moved into action, probably saving both of their lives in the process.Kelly tackled Cesario to the ground to use his body to shield her from bullets, telling her that they needed to get out of the area because it wasn’t safe.
Then he pulled my arm up to get me out of the piles of people. We had no idea who was dead or who was alive. We just started to run. He kept telling me it was going to be okay and to keep running until we were safe. He even let me use his phone to stay in touch with my sister so she knew I was safe, which is the text you’ll see. The whole night he didn’t leave my side.” She wrote.
The chilling story has thousands of people grateful for his actions that day, and Cesario’s family was grateful that their family member happened across his path during the concert.
