Uniceff Afghanistan is going VIRAL after they posted this picture of a very happy little boy. He’s wearing a shirt signed by a soccer player…but there’s more to the story than that! The shirt is for his favorite soccer star, Lionel Messi, and the signature is made out specifically for this happy little kid! At just 5 years old, his dream came true. While the soccer star wasn’t able to personally give him the shirt, he did sign two shirts and gave him a ball as well.
I love Messi, and my shirt says Messi loves me.”
So why all of the attention? Earlier, a fan of Messi saw this little boy wearing his homemade shirt and posted it on Twitter with the caption: “a kid in Iraq…” and Messi fans got to work trying to find him. After many failed attempts, it was discovered that the user had lied about where the kid lived, and they were eventually able to track him down!
Murtaza has the real thing now! #LeoMessi helped make his dream come true & gave him signed jerseys & a football. – @UNICEFAfg”
It was impossible for the little boy’s father to afford an actual shirt. They live in a poor village and don’t have the resources to afford those types of luxuries. “He kept crying for days, asking for the shirt, until his brother Hamayon helped him make one from the plastic bag to make him happy. He stopped crying after wearing that plastic bag shirt.”
Well, now he can show off his REAL shirt – and play his favorite sport of all time – just like Messi!
