After a wave of backlash and complaints from social media after unveiling this wax sculpture, Madam Tussauds has removed the offending “likeness” from their floor.
The model was meant to be Beyoncé, but as people could clearly see from this picture, it not only didn’t look like the popstar, it was all of the wrong colors.
Fans were outraged and confused. Why did the wax makers have such a hard time creating an accurate representation of the woman? One fan had a theory: “the wax makers have never actually seen Beyoncé.”The team attempted to defend themselves, and while mistakes in colors might be blamed on lighting, the fact remained that the figure didn’t look a thing like the actual Beyoncé.
At Madame Tussauds, our talented team of sculptors take every effort to ensure we accurately color match all of our wax figures to the celebrity being depicted,” a spokesperson said.
“Lighting within the attraction combined with flash photography may distort and misrepresent the color of our wax figures which is something our sculptors are unable to account for at the production stage.”
They removed the figure and haven’t said much else…we wonder if they will try again anytime soon! Hopefully, they’ll consider taking actual measurements this time. Yikes.
